In-Home Recreational Therapy for Alta California Regional Center Clients

Liv RecTherapy provides 1:1 Specialized Recreation Therapy for individuals receiving services through Alta California Regional Center (ACRC).

Recreational Therapy is purposeful, goal-oriented recreation and leisure—or as we like to describe it, transformative play.

Our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists use meaningful recreation and leisure as therapeutic tools to support individualized goals across physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and leisure domains. Services are guided by assessment and designed to align with applicable IPP goals.

How Services Begin & Continue

Recreational Therapy through Alta California Regional Center follows a structured process. ALTA Authorization is required before each clinical phase of services can begin.

1. Referral & Intake

The process begins with an Intake Form completed with the information needed for Liv RecTherapy to review the referral.

Our team reviews the referral to determine current caseload availability and whether the individual may be an appropriate potential fit for Recreational Therapy services.

2. Assessment Authorization

If Liv RecTherapy is able to accept the referral, the individual's Alta Service Coordinator requests authorization for a Recreational Therapy Assessment.

An assessment cannot be scheduled until Liv RecTherapy receives the required authorization.

3. Recreational Therapy Assessment

Once authorized, a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist meets with the client and applicable parent, caregiver, guardian, or conservator to complete the assessment process.

The assessment identifies areas such as the client's strengths, interests, abilities, needs, barriers, and opportunities for growth.

4. Treatment Recommendations

Assessment findings guide the recommended treatment plan, goals and objectives, and service hours for the upcoming six-month service period.

These recommendations are shared with the appropriate individuals and Alta California Regional Center to support planning for ongoing services.

5. Authorization & Individual Services

If ongoing Recreational Therapy is approved, Alta authorizes the recommended individual services.

The client then participates in 1:1 Recreational Therapy over a six-month service cycle, working toward the goals and objectives established through the assessment and treatment-planning process.

Services begin in the client's home. Community-based services may be incorporated later when clinically appropriate and supportive of the client's therapeutic goals.

6. Six-Month Evaluation

If continued Recreational Therapy is being considered, Liv RecTherapy will request authorization through Alta to evaluate the client's progress at the end of the six-month service period.

The evaluation examines progress toward the current treatment plan, current needs, outcomes, and whether Recreational Therapy continues to be appropriate.

7. Continued Services, When Recommended

If continued Recreational Therapy is recommended, the evaluation will guide recommendations for the next service period.

Depending on the client's progress and current needs, this may include:

  • Continuing existing goals and objectives

  • Updating goals and objectives

  • Establishing new therapeutic goals

  • Recommending service hours for the next treatment period

Once the next period of services is authorized by Alta, a new six-month treatment cycle begins.

Where Do Services Take Place?

Liv RecTherapy's Alta services are provided 1:1 and begin in the client's home, allowing the therapist to build rapport, explore meaningful interests, and work toward therapeutic goals within a familiar environment.

After the initial three months of individual services, community-based Recreational Therapy may be incorporated when clinically appropriate and supportive of the client's treatment goals.
